Alarm not ringing on Android? Fixes for every brand

Most of the time the phone stops the app to save battery. Start with the general steps, then pick your brand.

First: steps for every phone

  1. Raise the “Alarm volume” in Settings → Sound (separate from ringtone and media).
  2. Check the alarm is on and the repeat days are right.
  3. Settings → Apps → the alarm app → Battery: “Unrestricted” / “Don’t optimise”.
  4. Android 12+: Settings → Apps → Special access → “Alarms & reminders”, allow the alarm app.
  5. Don’t close the app with “cleaner” or “booster” apps.

Samsung

  1. Settings → Battery → Background usage limits.
  2. Make sure the alarm app is not in “Sleeping apps” or “Deep sleeping apps”, and add it to “Never sleeping apps”.
  3. Then Settings → Apps → the alarm app → Battery → “Unrestricted”.

Xiaomi, Redmi & POCO

  1. Settings → Apps → Manage apps → the alarm app, turn on “Autostart”.
  2. On the same page: Battery saver → “No restrictions”.
  3. Open recent apps, long-press the alarm app and lock it 🔒 so cleaning doesn’t close it.

Huawei & Honor

  1. Settings → Battery → App launch.
  2. Turn off “Manage automatically” for the alarm app, then allow Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background.

OPPO

  1. Settings → Battery → App battery usage (or App info → Battery usage).
  2. Turn on “Allow background activity” and “Allow auto launch” if shown.

realme

  1. Open the alarm app’s info → Battery usage.
  2. Turn on “Allow background activity”. (Newer versions may not show auto launch; this is enough.)

vivo

  1. Settings → Battery → Background power consumption, allow the alarm app.
  2. App management → Permissions → Autostart, turn it on for the alarm app.

Infinix, Tecno & itel

  1. Open “Phone Master” → Auto-start management and enable the alarm app.
  2. Settings → Battery (or Battery Lab): set the alarm app to unrestricted / exclude it from power saving.

Menu names can differ slightly by version. If you can’t find an option, search the app’s name in Settings.

FAQ

Why doesn’t my alarm ring on Android?

Usually the phone’s battery saver stopped the alarm app in the background, the alarm volume is low, or the “Alarms & reminders” permission is off.

Why does it ring only sometimes?

Phones stop apps after a while or when cleaning memory. Excluding the app from battery saving and locking it in recents usually fixes it.

Does Do Not Disturb block alarms?

On most phones no — alarms are allowed by default. Check the exceptions to be sure.

It rings but doesn’t show on the lock screen?

On Android 14+, open the app’s notification settings and turn on “Full-screen notifications” if shown.
